Northwestern Ontario has one of the most beautiful rugged landscapes when it comes to enjoying the outdoors. Our terrain is ideal for walking, hiking, and enjoying nature through all the seasons.
The Nipigon/Red Rock region offers an 8.2 km trail (excluding loops) along the Nipigon River from Nipigon to Red Rock. The trail is divided into sections and loops to accommodate short and long distance hikes. Review our trail maps and trail information below.

Full Trail: 8.2 km (excluding loops)
If you plan to tackle the entire trail, the total trail length is 8.2 km (excluding loops). Total hiking time for trail only is 2.5 hours. If you want to take advantage of the lookouts along the way, plan for a 3.5 hour trip. Note: Times are approximate only.

Nipigon Waterfront Trail - Map A
Distance: 0.5 km
Time: 5 minutes
An easy walk with marina and river access.

Wetlands Trail - Map A
Distance: 1.7 km
Time: 30 minutes
A walk on this gravelled trail beside the river and marshlands offers an opportunity to see the waterfowl and animals.

Sawmill Point Trail - Map A
Distance: 0.8 km
Time: 15 minutes
A pleasant walk takes you past open shoreline to a scenic view of the bay.

Stillwater Creek Trail - Map A
Distance: 1.0 km
Time: 20 minutes
Enjoy this trail along the shore. Carry on through woodland areas to the clear waters of the creek.

Hydro Corridor Trail - Map B
Distance: 1.4 km
Time: 25 minutes
This adventure trail through woodland, followed by a steep rock climb along the Hydro line (4 pole spans), will challenge you. However, it's well worth the hike because it offers access to the most spectacular of all the lookouts over Nipigon Bay - Eagle Ridge. A rope support will guide you to this panoramic lookout. Eagle Ridge can be reached more easily through the Woodland Trail.

Woodland Trail - Map B
Distance: 1.4 km
Time: 25 minutes
Hike this rugged trail up occasional steep inclines and through ravines. The reward at the end of this trail is the view from Eagle Ridge.

Red Rock Ridge Trail - Map B
Distance: 0.8 km
Time: 15 minutes
A hike up a steep trail through mature forest leads to lookouts over Nipigon Bay.
